MANILA – Candidates and political parties involved in the March 14 special election in Antipolo City’s 2nd District have been reminded by the Commission on Elections that a temporary suspension on certain government assistance programs will take effect starting March 4.
According to Comelec Chairman George Garcia, the nine-day prohibition will run until March 13, covering the period immediately preceding the vote for a new district representative in the House of Representatives.
Programs included in the suspension are AICS and AKAP under the Department of Social Welfare and Development, along with TUPAD administered by the Department of Labor and Employment.
Garcia underscored that the restriction is comprehensive and leaves no room for exceptions beyond those specifically provided by regulation. He cautioned against efforts to exploit government aid distribution for electoral gain.
Voters were likewise urged to refrain from accepting assistance during the prohibited window, as election authorities seek to prevent the misuse of public funds for campaign purposes.
Under Resolution No. 11185, all releases of public funds are suspended from March 4 through March 13, except for medical and burial assistance, which remain allowable.
