MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) has approved the promotion of more than 5,000 public school teachers following the successful review of their reclassification applications.
According to DepEd, 5,335 teachers nationwide qualified for promotion after the applications were processed in partnership with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). The initiative aligns with the administration’s policy to enhance the welfare and career development of educators under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr..
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) initiative is part of ongoing reforms designed to provide public school teachers with clearer paths for advancement.
He emphasized that the program supports the President’s directive to prevent teachers from spending their entire careers at the entry-level Teacher I position.
DepEd plans to promote over 100,000 teachers in 2026 through the ECP framework.
Angara stressed that the program is not solely about increasing the number of promotions but also about acknowledging the commitment and contributions of educators in shaping the country’s future.
To sustain the initiative, the education department secured a historic PHP6.1 billion budget for 2026, intended to strengthen motivation among teachers and school administrators while helping improve student learning outcomes.
Meanwhile, DepEd continues to push leadership reforms in the public school system. The agency is currently awaiting the DBM’s final approval for 914 additional reclassification applications covering leadership roles such as head teachers, assistant principals, and teachers-in-charge.
