MANILA – University of Santo Tomas kept its title hopes alive after dispatching Far Eastern University in a four-set playoff victory to enter the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball stepladder quarterfinals.
After dropping the opening frame, the Golden Tigresses regrouped and controlled the next three sets to complete a 16-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 triumph at the Big Dome.
The win marked UST’s third victory over FEU this season and secured its sixth consecutive Top 4 finish dating back to 2019.
UST now faces Adamson University in the next phase, where they aim to overcome a tough opponent that has dominated them so far this season.
Should they prevail, the Tigresses will meet National University for a chance to advance to the Finals against De La Salle University.
Coach Shaq Delos Santos lauded the team’s determination, highlighting their growth throughout the season.
Angeline Poyos delivered a standout performance with 26 points, while Regina Jurado and Xyza Rufel Gula provided strong all-around support.
Pepito anchored the backline with 18 digs, and Carballo orchestrated the offense with 21 excellent sets.
FEU, meanwhile, leaned on Gerzel Petallo’s 14-point effort but ultimately fell short, ending its campaign in fifth place.
