MANILA — Philippine tennis ace Alex Eala is through to the third round of the National Bank Open after overcoming Alycia Parks in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, in Toronto, Canada.
Eala looked in complete command early, cruising through the opening set before Parks fought back to level the match.
She then responded with an aggressive performance in the decider, sealing another hard-earned victory in her breakout 2026 campaign.
The result gives Eala another opportunity to build on the momentum from her recent Washington Open triumph and marks a successful turnaround after her previous loss to Parks at the Australian Open.
Next up for the Filipina is Caty McNally, who advanced after upsetting reigning Wimbledon champion Linda Nosková.
Eala’s schedule in Toronto remains busy, as she will also compete in the women’s doubles event with former world No. 1 Venus Williams. The pair earned a wildcard entry and will begin their campaign against Miyu Kato and Liudmila Samsonova.
