MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, or habagat, continues to bring rainy weather over several parts of the country on Monday, July 27, with state weather forecasters warning of possible flooding and landslides in areas expected to receive heavy rainfall.
PAGASA said western sections of Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevailing southwest monsoon. Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan are among the provinces likely to receive moderate to occasionally heavy rains throughout the day.
Residents in affected areas are advised to take precautionary measures as prolonged or intense rainfall may trigger flash floods and rain-induced landslides, particularly in low-lying communities and mountainous regions.
Metro Manila and nearby provinces are also expected to experience intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening. Similar weather conditions may prevail in parts of Visayas and Mindanao, where isolated thunderstorms could develop.
Weather authorities noted that while no tropical cyclone is currently affecting the country, the southwest monsoon remains the dominant weather system influencing much of Luzon and is capable of producing significant rainfall.
Sea travel may likewise be affected by occasional rough sea conditions in areas experiencing thunderstorms, prompting authorities to advise fishermen and operators of small vessels to exercise caution.
PAGASA urged the public to remain alert and regularly monitor official weather updates and local government advisories, particularly in flood- and landslide-prone areas.
With rainy conditions expected to persist, commuters and motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and take extra care on wet and slippery roads.
