MANILA, Philippines — The departure of Typhoon Rosal (Champi) from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is expected today, October 24. Still, rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to affect portions of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, PAGASA said.
The weather bureau reported that Rosal was positioned 415 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, early Saturday, with sustained winds reaching 150 kph and gusts of up to 185 kph.
Moving southwest at 10 kph, the typhoon is expected to exit the country’s monitoring area, although its trough may still influence weather conditions in parts of northern Luzon.
PAGASA said Batanes could experience rain and strong gusts, while scattered rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over the Ilocos Region, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Abra and Benguet.
The ITCZ will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and several areas in eastern and southern Mindanao.
Other parts of the country, including Metro Manila, are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, with localized rain showers or thunderstorms developing throughout the day.
The weather agency cautioned that heavy downpours could cause flooding and landslides, especially in areas susceptible to these hazards.
PAGASA urged the public to stay updated on weather advisories, exercise caution during thunderstorms and follow instructions from local disaster management authorities.
