Commuters to Enjoy Complimentary Train Service During Peak Hours on June 12
By Benjamin Cuaresma
MANILA — Thousands of commuters are set to benefit from free rides on the MRT-3 as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) joins the nation in celebrating the 128th Independence Day on June 12.
In an announcement, transportation officials said the MRT-3 will provide complimentary rides to all passengers during designated peak-hour periods as part of the government’s observance of the country’s Independence Day celebrations.
Under the program, passengers may avail themselves of free rides across the entire MRT-3 line from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The initiative aims to ease commuting expenses for workers, students, and the riding public while encouraging greater public participation in activities commemorating the nation’s independence.
The DOTr said the free ride program forms part of its annual contribution to the celebration of Philippine independence and serves as a gesture of appreciation to commuters who rely on public transportation daily.
MRT-3, which connects North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City, is one of Metro Manila’s busiest rail transit systems, serving hundreds of thousands of passengers each day.
Transportation authorities advised commuters to expect heavier passenger volume during the free ride periods and encouraged the public to observe station rules and safety protocols while availing of the service.
The Philippines will mark its Independence Day on June 12 with various government-led ceremonies, cultural activities, and public events commemorating the country’s declaration of independence in 1898.
