Orders Former DPWH Chief Transferred to PNP General Hospital
By Benjamin Cuaresma
MANILA — The Sandiganbayan has partially granted the request of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan to remain under medical confinement while facing a plunder case before the anti-graft court.
In a resolution released Friday morning, the Sandiganbayan Third Division allowed Bonoan to continue receiving medical treatment due to his reported health condition. However, the court denied his request to remain in a private hospital and instead ordered that he be transferred to the PNP General Hospital.
The court’s ruling partially granted Bonoan’s motion, recognizing his medical condition while ensuring that his confinement remains under government supervision.
Bonoan is currently undergoing treatment, but under the latest order, he must stay at the PNP General Hospital while legal proceedings continue.
The former public works chief is among the officials facing charges in connection with the alleged multi-billion-peso flood control fund controversy now under judicial review.
While the court acknowledged Bonoan’s health concerns, it maintained that his hospitalization should take place in a government-run medical facility rather than a private institution.
The Sandiganbayan has yet to issue further details regarding the duration of Bonoan’s confinement or any additional conditions attached to the order.
The plunder case remains pending before the anti-graft court as proceedings against Bonoan and his co-accused continue.
