MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Tuesday that suspects in the recent shooting incident inside the Senate building have already been identified, although officials refused to disclose their identities.
Acting Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said during a Palace press briefing that revealing names at this stage could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
“We’ve identified them, but I don’t want to preclude our panel,” Vida said, stressing that the findings are still subject to evaluation by investigators.
He noted that the probe is not limited to the May 13 shooting alone, but also includes related developments that started on May 11.
Vida also said the DOJ has already received reports from the National Bureau of Investigation, which have been forwarded to the investigative panel handling the case.
The Philippine National Police is likewise expected to submit its own report to the DOJ.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla added that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been informed of the situation, but has not given direct instructions to investigators.
