MANILA — The Philippine weather bureau on Wednesday said a low-pressure area (LPA) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will bring rain to several parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
According to PAGASA’s 5 a.m. advisory, the LPA was estimated at 670 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. While it is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone, its trough may cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.
Elsewhere, including Metro Manila, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail due to easterlies.
PAGASA is also tracking a tropical depression outside PAR that may enter the country between Friday evening and Saturday and intensify into a tropical storm.
As of early Wednesday, the system was located 2,395 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, moving west at 10 kph. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness reaching 70 kph.
Once it enters PAR, it will be named “Caloy,” the third storm to affect the country this year.
The entire country will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate sea conditions, with temperatures ranging from 24.1°C to 33.5°C.
