CALATRAVA, Romblon – Travelers looking for a unique and affordable summer getaway can set their sights on Calatrava, an emerging destination in the northern coast of Tablas Island.
The town is celebrated for its unspoiled beaches, cultural charm, and immersive island experiences, perfect for visitors who want both relaxation and adventure without spending a fortune.
“Rising fuel prices shouldn’t stop people from enjoying a summer break. We invite locals and tourists alike to discover the beauty of Romblon,” said Mayor Robert “Bong” Fabella.
Calatrava is a cost-conscious destination where visitors can enjoy its laid-back ambiance, island hopping, and swimming in crystal-clear waters. Top spots include Cove Aurelio Resort, Lapus-Lapus Beach, Guindawahan Island, and Tinagong Dagat in Barangay Talisay; Ngak-Ngak Beach in Barangay Linao; Balai Azinan in Barangay Balogo; and Bulawan Farm Resort in Barangay Pagsangahan.
Island-hopping trips, such as tours around Lapus-Lapus or Tinagong Dagat, can start as low as PHP3,000 for ten people. For those seeking more adventure, private diving groups accredited by the local government offer exclusive trips to less-explored areas.
A small environmental fee of PHP20 per visitor is charged by the Calatrava Tourism Council to help maintain the cleanliness of tourist spots.
Nature enthusiasts can also explore eight scenic waterfalls, including Salingpaca Falls in Barangay Pangulo, Oray Falls, Humbak-Humbak Falls, and Kalipay Falls in Barangay Balogo, and Cawa Falls, Secret Lagoon Falls, Tagpuan Falls, and El Telon Falls in Barangay Pagsangahan.
Local cuisine is another highlight, with many eateries serving grilled seafood, kinilaw, and traditional seafood stews.
Accommodations cater to all budgets, from simple guesthouses to beachfront inns, providing comfortable stays alongside warm, hospitable service.
“Beyond our natural beauty, we offer a welcoming experience to ensure that every visitor feels at home,” Fabella said. “In Calatrava, your budget goes further, and the memories last longer.”
Visitors can reach the Calatrava Tourism Council through its social media page for inquiries and travel guidance.
