MANILA — A foreign tourist lost P7,000 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Holy Friday. The incident occurred at the security checkpoint, where the tourist had placed his shoulder bag for screening. According to reports, the tourist was about to board a flight to Cebu when he realized his money was missing.
The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) investigated and reviewed CCTV footage, identifying three screening officers involved in the theft. The officers and their supervisor have been relieved from duty and face criminal and administrative charges. OTS Administrator Gilbert Cruz condemned the act, stating, “We do not tolerate such acts within our organization.”
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has urged passengers to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity at the airport. DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez emphasized the importance of maintaining security and integrity at NAIA, a major gateway to the Philippines.
The incident has raised concerns about security at NAIA, with some netizens calling for increased surveillance and stricter protocols. The OTS has assured the public that it is taking steps to improve security measures and prevent similar incidents in the future.
