MANILA — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Monday announced a strict ban on consuming alcohol in public areas.
“Drinking in the streets is now prohibited under the Anti-Public Intoxication Act. Setting up tables and chairs for drinking in public spaces is also not allowed,” said DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
Those found violating the rule will face apprehension, he added.
“I urge everyone to cooperate. Drinking in public spaces will no longer be tolerated,” Remulla said.
He clarified that alcohol consumption is permitted inside private homes, but public spaces and streets are off-limits.
The DILG also plans to enforce a curfew on videoke use, prohibiting it past 10:00 p.m.
