MANILA, Philippines — Diesel prices will jump by more than P12 per liter this week, while gasoline prices will post only a modest increase, according to fuel companies.
In separate announcements released Monday, Seaoil, Jetti Petroleum, Petro Gazz, and Unioil said diesel prices will go up by P12.50 to P12.90 per liter starting March 31.
Kerosene prices will also increase by P2 per liter, while gasoline will rise by P1 to P2.50 per liter.
The adjustments are lower compared with last week’s sharp price spikes, when gasoline surged by P8 to P12 per liter, diesel climbed P15 to P18, and kerosene rose by P12 to P22 per liter.
Of the oil firms that issued advisories, Seaoil said it will temporarily refrain from increasing gasoline prices.
“For now, we’re holding off on gasoline price increases to give motorists a bit of relief where we can,” the company said.
Other industry players have yet to release their official fuel price changes for Tuesday.
An industry source earlier noted that the easing of gasoline prices may be linked to signs of reduced tensions in the Middle East conflict.
The source explained that gasoline prices, which tend to closely follow crude oil movements and supply concerns in the region, softened as fears of prolonged supply disruptions eased.
Diesel is widely used by public transport vehicles, cargo trucks, jeepneys, fishing boats, and agricultural machinery, making price movements particularly significant for key sectors of the economy.
Gasoline, on the other hand, is mainly used by private vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, tricycles, and light utility vehicles.
