MANILA — Senator Imee Marcos has urged major government-run financial institutions to temporarily suspend member contributions and provide a short-term loan payment moratorium following the declaration of a national energy emergency.
Marcos appealed to the Social Security System, Government Service Insurance System, Pag-IBIG Fund, and PhilHealth to ease payment requirements as Filipinos struggle with the effects of rising fuel costs.
She said workers, farmers, fisherfolk, and small entrepreneurs are among those most affected by the surge in fuel prices, which has triggered increases in transportation expenses and basic commodity prices.
According to Marcos, granting a temporary reprieve from payments — even for just a month or longer — would help households cope with the financial strain brought about by the ongoing energy crisis.
