MANILA — Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero is urging government institutions, local governments and the private sector to work together in addressing fuel and energy concerns caused by the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Escudero emphasized the importance of a unified government framework to prevent fragmented responses and to ensure that the country remains resilient amid global energy uncertainties.
“The global energy situation continues to evolve, and the country cannot respond with scattered efforts. Protecting Filipino households and keeping the economy stable requires a coordinated national plan,” he said.
The Senate leader welcomed the signing of Executive Order No. 110 by Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which places the country under a State of National Energy Emergency and introduces the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food and Transport (UPLIFT) program to support affected sectors.
Escudero said the move reflects the government’s proactive stance in dealing with the potential impact of global fuel and energy disruptions.
He also expressed support for the decision of the Energy Regulatory Commission to halt operations of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market nationwide.
According to him, the regulatory measure will help prevent price volatility in electricity and ensure a more stable power supply while global energy markets remain uncertain.
“This action provides stability and clear guidance to power industry stakeholders as the country navigates possible risks to its energy security,” Escudero said.
