MANILA — A 34-year-old man was arrested for stealing a bicycle in front of a house in Tondo, this city, on March 21, 2026.
Leonardo Commendador, a scavenger, was caught by bystanders after the victim, Filipe Coronado III, chased him and alerted the public.
According to the police report, Commendador was seen taking the bicycle, valued at ₱5,000, and attempting to flee. The victim chased him, and the bystanders helped apprehend him.
Barangay tanods from Barangay 65 arrived at the scene and turned Commendador over to the police.
Commendador was informed of his rights and underwent a medical examination. He will face charges for violation of Article 308 of the Revised Penal Code (Theft) [1].
The police are investigating the incident and gathering evidence. The case will be presented to the City Prosecutor’s Office of Manila for inquest proceedings.
