MANILA — The combined effects of the easterlies and the northeast monsoon will bring rain to several areas of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Thursday.
In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are likely in Surigao del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental due to the easterlies.
Weather officials warned that periods of moderate to heavy rainfall could increase the risk of flash floods or landslides in these areas.
At the same time, the “amihan” continues to affect extreme Northern Luzon, bringing light rains over Batanes, Cagayan, and Apayao, with occasional light showers also possible in Ilocos Norte.
Metro Manila and other parts of the country may also see isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the easterlies. PAGASA warned that intense thunderstorms could lead to localized flooding or landslides.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will affect Northern Luzon, while the rest of the country will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.
The weather bureau also noted that there are currently no low-pressure areas being monitored for potential tropical cyclone formation.
