MANILA — Eleven vice mayors from Bulacan province, stuck in Dubai after the US and Israel carried out a joint attack on Iran on February 28, have arranged flights to return home, provincial authorities said on Wednesday.
Myrvi Fabia, the DILG provincial director, told the Inquirer that the vice mayors had already finalized travel plans and obtained the necessary clearances.
Dubai, a key emirate of the United Arab Emirates, has been impacted by the conflict in the Middle East, which began five days ago.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier reported that 11 of Bulacan’s 24 vice mayors were in Dubai when the conflict erupted. Fabia confirmed that the officials received Foreign Travel Authorities (FTA), but did not disclose additional details.
Remulla emphasized that the officials traveled on their own initiative and expenses, without using government funds or requesting assistance. He also noted that one mayor accompanied the group, though officials are still verifying the mayor’s travel clearance.
Bulacan is made up of 20 municipalities and four cities, with a total of 24 mayors and vice mayors.
