MANILA — A 40-year-old messenger was arrested during a police checkpoint operation in Barangay Concepcion, Malabon City after authorities discovered an unlicensed firearm in his possession.
Operatives from the Northern Police District (NPD) conducted the operation under the OPLAN SITA program. The suspect, who was riding a motorcycle with an improvised license plate, was flagged down by personnel from the Malabon City Police Station’s Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit (TMRU).
During the inspection, police found a 9mm Taurus pistol, along with a magazine and several rounds of ammunition, inside the suspect’s black sling bag. The man was unable to present the necessary license for the firearm and also failed to provide registration documents for the motorcycle.
Authorities marked and inventoried the seized items at the scene. The suspect is currently under police custody and is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
