MANILA — Private vehicles will temporarily be allowed to use the EDSA Busway between Cubao, Quezon City and Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong for two weeks to ease traffic congestion as commuters return from the Undas break.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Public Works Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced the measure Monday following the early completion of concrete reblocking works under the ₱4.009-billion EDSA rehabilitation project.
Dizon said private motorists could use the busway while asphalt laying continues and before concrete barriers are restored. Normal busway operations are expected to resume after two weeks.
The reopening was implemented upon the instruction of President Marcos to minimize inconvenience to motorists.
Meanwhile, the northbound lane of the C5 Santolan flyover in Pasig City reopened Monday night following emergency structural retrofitting, while the southbound lane was scheduled to reopen today.
Lopez said workers completed the strengthening operations during the four-day holiday break to ensure motorists’ safety.
He also confirmed the completion of emergency rehabilitation works along the Boni Serrano flyover.
