MANILA — Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian has called on political groups, civil society organizations and local government units to unite behind the new Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) administration to promote regional stability and economic development.
Gatchalian congratulated Abdulraof Macacua on his election as chief minister during the inaugural session of the 80-member BARMM parliament on Friday.
He expressed hope that the new parliamentary leadership would strengthen peace and create opportunities for economic growth following the historic Sept. 14 parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chairman Muslimin Sema and representatives of business groups and peace advocates pledged support for the parliament’s socioeconomic agenda.
Sema assured the regional government of his group’s cooperation in maintaining peace and order.
He said the MNLF would support peace and development initiatives to help strengthen the regional economy and achieve lasting stability.
