MANILA, Oct. 29 — Residents of Metro Manila and several provinces in Luzon should prepare for scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms as a shear line affects the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Thursday.
In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA forecast cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Aurora, Bulacan, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.
The weather bureau warned that moderate to, at times, heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas vulnerable to flooding and rain-induced soil movement.
Temperatures in Metro Manila are expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius, while winds will generally come from the northeast and may be moderate to strong.
The northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, is also affecting Northern Luzon and the rest of Central Luzon, bringing cloudy conditions and light rains to parts of these areas.
Ilocos Region and the remaining parts of Central Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. Elsewhere in the country, localized thunderstorms could bring brief but potentially heavy downpours.
On Friday, Oct. 30, Metro Manila is expected to experience partly cloudy skies at times, with rain showers or thunderstorms still possible. Temperatures are forecast to range from 24 to 33 degrees Celsius.
The weather outlook suggests that sunny periods may occur, but afternoon thunderstorms remain a concern.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for sudden changes in weather, especially when traveling or undertaking outdoor activities. Residents in flood-prone communities should monitor official advisories and be ready to move to safer areas if conditions worsen.
Those living near steep slopes should also watch for signs of possible landslides during periods of sustained or heavy rain.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution on slippery roads and in areas where floodwaters may accumulate.
PAGASA’s forecasts may be updated as weather conditions evolve. Residents are encouraged to follow the agency’s latest bulletins and warnings.
