MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested a 31-year-old man wanted in connection with an alleged violation of the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 during an early-morning operation in Tondo, Manila, on September 12.
The Manila Police District (MPD) District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU) identified the arrested person as Clyde Drexler Nunag y Mangalonzo, also known as “Drex,” a resident of Nepomuceno Street in Barangay 94, Tondo.
According to the police report, DACU operatives received information at around 8:30 p.m. on September 11 regarding the whereabouts of the accused. The team subsequently proceeded to the area and conducted surveillance.
The operation led to Nunag’s arrest at about 4:15 a.m. on September 12 in front of a residence along Nepomuceno Street in Barangay 94, Tondo.
Police said the arrest was carried out by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued in connection with Criminal Case No. R-QZN-26-05424-CR.
The warrant was issued on June 29, 2026, by Presiding Judge Caridad M. Walse-Lutero of the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City, Branch 223, for an alleged violation of Republic Act 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.
The operation was led by the DACU assistant chief together with PCMS Clyde Lopez Villareal, PMSg Randy Sahagun Santiago and PSSg Marcon Paglinawan Sumampong.
Police said Sumampong informed Nunag of his constitutional rights in a language he understood. The accused, however, opted to remain silent.
In compliance with Supreme Court Administrative Matter No. 21-06-08-SC, police also used a Samsung A35 cellular phone as an alternative recording device during the operation, according to the report.
Nunag remained under the custody of the MPD District Anti-Carnapping Unit pending the return of the warrant of arrest to the issuing court.
