MANILA, Philippines — Keep those umbrellas handy. The southwest monsoon or habagat is once again bringing wet weather to Luzon, with scattered rains and thunderstorms expected in Metro Manila and other parts of the island today.
PAGASA said Metro Manila will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, while Northern Luzon may see partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with rainshowers or thunderstorms. Southwest winds may also become moderate to strong in affected areas.
The combination of persistent rain and thunderstorms could trigger flooding in low-lying communities and landslides in areas near mountain slopes, prompting authorities to remind residents to stay alert.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Peilou remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. As of early Tuesday, the storm was thousands of kilometers east of Northern Luzon and was moving east-northeastward.
PAGASA urged the public to keep monitoring official weather advisories, particularly during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
