MANILA — Rainy weather is expected in several parts of the country today, October 1, as the trough of Tropical Storm Choi-Wan affects eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
PAGASA said Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao Oriental will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the tropical cyclone’s trough.
Moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in communities considered vulnerable to such hazards.
Northern Mindanao and the rest of the Davao Region may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms may bring sudden heavy rainfall, which could also result in flash floods and landslides.
For tomorrow, October 2, similar generally warm and humid conditions are expected, with rain showers or thunderstorms remaining possible in various areas.
The weather bureau said the tropical storm was still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of early Thursday, located about 2,945 kilometers east of Central Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for updated weather bulletins, particularly residents in areas where heavy rain could cause flooding or landslides.
