MANILA — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched an investigation into an explosion that occurred near the entrance of its main office along Padre Faura Street in Ermita shortly after midnight on Sunday.
In a statement released Monday, the DOJ said the blast took place at around 12:17 a.m. and was believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED).
No injuries or fatalities were reported, the department said.
The Philippine National Police’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (PNP-EOD) Unit was immediately dispatched to the scene and conducted a technical examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are working to determine the origin, nature, and circumstances of the explosion.
The DOJ assured the public that the situation is under control and that security within its compound remains intact. It also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its personnel and visitors while fully cooperating in a thorough and impartial investigation.
