MANILA — Sen. Robinhood “Robin” Padilla visited detained Sen. Rodante Marcoleta on Thursday at the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNP GH), where the latter continues to undergo medical evaluation after being taken into custody earlier this week.
Padilla arrived at Camp Crame at about 2:20 p.m. and remained inside the hospital for more than an hour. He left the facility without issuing any statement or revealing what was discussed during the meeting.
Before the visit, Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Col. John Guiagui confirmed that Padilla had submitted a formal request seeking permission to see Marcoleta.
The two lawmakers are members of the Senate’s minority bloc led by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.
Marcoleta has been confined at the PNP General Hospital since July 6 after experiencing chest pains and high blood pressure during his arrest. He is facing a non-bailable plunder charge in connection with the alleged failure to declare P75 million in campaign donations.
Authorities said the senator remains under medical observation while in police custody.
Vice President Sara Duterte also visited Marcoleta on Tuesday before proceeding to the Senate, where she met with members of her legal team handling her impeachment case.
Marcoleta will remain at the PNP General Hospital pending the results of his medical assessment and further legal proceedings.
