MANILA — A low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), combined with the southwest monsoon or habagat, is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over large parts of the country on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of 2 a.m., the LPA was located about 495 kilometers east of Surigao del Norte. PAGASA said the weather disturbance has a medium probability of intensifying into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
The LPA is forecast to trigger scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across the Visayas, Bicol Region, Caraga, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Mimaropa Region will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains due to the prevailing southwest monsoon.
PAGASA also warned of heavy rainfall over Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, mainly caused by localized weather activity.
The state weather bureau cautioned that heavy rains and severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters are expected to prevail across the archipelago.
