MANILA — The Palace has expressed skepticism over Vice President Sara Duterte’s reported move to exclude her Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) from evidence in the upcoming impeachment trial, arguing that the documents are central to allegations concerning her wealth.
Duterte is facing multiple impeachment complaints, including accusations that she acquired assets disproportionate to her official income and failed to properly declare certain holdings.
Although Malacañang reiterated its position of non-interference in the Senate proceedings, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro noted that the SALNs are directly tied to the accusations of unexplained wealth.
Speaking at a media briefing, Castro said the documents are considered one of the primary bases for evaluating the allegations and determining whether the claims have merit.
She questioned how excluding the records would help dispel public doubts about Duterte’s financial disclosures, adding that transparency would be essential in addressing concerns raised in the impeachment case.
The Vice President has yet to face trial before the Senate, where the charges against her will be examined and evaluated.
