MANILA — Northern Luzon remains under Wind Signal No. 1 as Typhoon Francisco slowly weakens while tracking north over the Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau reported Wednesday.
Pagasa chief Nathaniel Servando said the typhoon’s center was located about 350 kilometers east-northeast of Calayan, Cagayan, and 275 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.
Francisco is moving northward at 10 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph and gusts reaching up to 190 kph, according to the agency’s latest advisory.
Weather officials expect the cyclone to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by late Thursday or early Friday.
Although weakening, the typhoon continues to influence weather conditions across Northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley.
At the same time, the southwest monsoon or “habagat” is triggering similar weather patterns across Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the Negros Island Region.
Pagasa added that it is also monitoring Tropical Storm Higos, which remains outside PAR and is not expected to directly impact the country.
