MANILA — Veteran lawyer Benjamin Tolosa Jr. has been added to the prosecution panel handling the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte and will also serve as the team’s legal spokesperson.
The announcement was made by Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro during a press briefing on Monday held alongside the ongoing pretrial proceedings at the Senate.
Luistro formally introduced Tolosa, founding and managing partner of the Tolosa Lim and Chua Law Office, as one of the private lawyers assisting the prosecution.
“We would like to introduce our legal spokesperson, Atty. Benjamin Tolosa Jr., one of the assisting counsels. As legal spokesperson, he will be speaking on behalf of the prosecution team and providing updates regarding developments in the pretrial conference,” Luistro said.
According to his law firm’s profile, Tolosa has extensive experience representing clients in the banking, energy, telecommunications, petroleum, broadcasting, and construction sectors.
The firm noted that he has also represented senior corporate executives and government officials, including senators, cabinet members, and local government leaders, in cases involving government contracts, plunder, and other white-collar offenses. He likewise possesses significant experience in commercial and construction arbitration.
Tolosa previously served as a senior associate at ACCRA Law Offices. He earned both his Legal Management degree and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Santo Tomas, where he was recognized with the Outstanding Thomasian award.
His inclusion brings to 11 the number of private lawyers assisting the prosecution panel on a pro bono basis in the impeachment proceedings against Duterte.
