MANDALUYONG CITY — Several of the 18 former bodyguards of former Congressman Zaldy Co arrived at an event venue in Mandaluyong City around 11 a.m. Tuesday, despite lingering uncertainty over whether a scheduled gathering would proceed.
Vehicles carrying some of the former security aides arrived in succession at the venue, where supporters had already assembled. Organizers continued with a program inside the facility while discussions reportedly took place regarding the event’s status.
Members of the media and bloggers remained outside the venue as the main gate stayed closed. Access restrictions were also imposed on other visitors.
Earlier in the day, Senator Imee Marcos reportedly visited the venue but was likewise unable to gain entry.
Police personnel maintained a visible security presence in and around the area as supporters continued their activities inside the compound.
Conflicting information surrounded the event throughout the morning. Organizers had earlier indicated that the activity would not push through. However, reports from individuals at the venue suggested that negotiations were ongoing in an effort to proceed with the planned program.
As of press time, no official announcement had been made on whether the event would continue as scheduled or whether additional members of the media would be permitted to enter the venue. Authorities and organizers had yet to provide further details.
