MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte emphasized the importance of safeguarding the country’s security, stressing that freedom and national security are never permanent unless continuously defended.
Speaking at a public event, Duterte said the nation’s safety and sovereignty require constant vigilance, warning against complacency amid evolving challenges facing the country.
“The state of security is impermanent unless it is actively protected and defended,” the Vice President said.
Duterte also expressed concern over what she described as the gradual erosion of public trust in governance, saying some services intended for the public have increasingly become avenues for private interests.
She underscored the need for government institutions to remain focused on serving the people and protecting the country’s welfare, adding that national security extends beyond military concerns and includes ensuring that public resources and services are used for the benefit of citizens.
The Vice President’s remarks come amid continuing discussions on governance, transparency, and the country’s broader security challenges.
