MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast generally fair weather conditions across much of the country on Independence Day as the southwest monsoon (habagat) continues to weaken.
In its early morning bulletin released at 4:00 a.m. on June 12, 2026, PAGASA said the weakening habagat is giving way to more stable atmospheric conditions, although easterlies are still influencing parts of the country and bringing occasional rainfall.
The agency said the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region will likely experience isolated rain showers caused by moist air coming from the Pacific Ocean. These rains may occur intermittently throughout the day and could intensify into thunderstorms in some areas.
For Metro Manila and other regions nationwide, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected. PAGASA explained that such conditions are common during periods of localized convection, especially when heat and moisture interact during daytime.
Despite the generally favorable outlook for holiday activities, PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms may still trigger flash floods or landslides in susceptible areas, urging the public to remain vigilant and monitor local advisories.
Wind conditions are expected to remain light to moderate across the archipelago, with coastal waters also staying slight to moderate. This means sea travel is generally safe, although sudden weather disturbances may still pose risks to small vessels and coastal communities.
