GSIS COMPLEX, Pasay City — With south-central Mindanao among the hardest hit by Monday’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has announced that it has set aside ₱15.1 billion in emergency assistance for about 600,000 members and pensioners affected by the tremor.
According to GSIS president and general manager Jose Arnulfo “Wick” Veloso, the agency is also prepared to fast-track insurance claims of government agencies whose properties were damaged by the quake.
“Our thoughts are with our fellow Filipinos in Mindanao affected by this powerful earthquake,” Veloso said during a press briefing.
“The GSIS is ready to provide accessible financial relief to help our members, pensioners, and partner government agencies recover and rebuild,” he added.
The state insurer said its emergency loan program is now available to qualified active members, as well as old-age and disability pensioners, residing or working in areas officially declared under a state of calamity by their respective local government units (LGUs).
Applicants have until September 7, 2026 to file their applications.
Eligible borrowers may apply for up to ₱40,000 if they have an existing emergency loan (with net proceeds not exceeding ₱20,000), or up to ₱20,000 if they have none. The loan carries a 6% annual interest rate, payable over 36 months, with proceeds credited directly to the borrower’s ATM card.
Applications may be filed through the GSIS Touch mobile app.
Veloso also urged government agencies, LGUs, and policyholders with GSIS-insured properties affected by the earthquake to immediately file claims for faster processing.
For assistance, stakeholders may contact the GSIS 24/7 Hotline at 1-800-8-847-4747 (Globe/TM) or 1-800-10-847-4747 (Smart/Sun/TNT), or email MotorClaims@gsis.gov.ph or NonMotorClaims@gsis.gov.ph.
GSIS said it is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to expedite the processing of emergency loans and insurance claims to support recovery and rehabilitation in affected areas.
