MANILA — Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso has always advocated for innovation in promoting development and in prioritizing food security. He has initiated efforts to advance urban agriculture through smart farming as a means of ensuring food security in Manila.
Just recently, Domagoso inspected the city’s vaunted Luneta Urban Garden’s greenhouse facility at Burnham Green in Rizal Park, underscoring his administration’s commitment to advancing urban agriculture and strengthening food security initiatives.
The mayor was accompanied by Agriculture Undersecretary Cheryl Marie Natividad-Caballero, Interior and Local Government Assistant Secretary Elizabeth Lopez De Leon, and DENSO Philippines Corporation President Yuji Torii, who all praised the initiative towards smart farming.
During the walkthrough, Domagoso proudly showed his guests how premium Japanese muskmelon can be grown using advanced greenhouse technology and automated smart agriculture systems provided by DENSO.
The Luneta Urban Garden was relaunched through a partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), DENSO Philippines, and the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) with the aim of showcasing that food can be grown even in urban areas through modern and efficient farming methods.
The project also highlights how technology can help improve crop quality and increase food production in the city.
