MANILA — The southwest monsoon will continue to bring wet weather to several parts of Luzon on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.
According to PAGASA’s early morning forecast, residents of Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga should expect periods of rain due to the enhanced monsoon.
Scattered rains and thunderstorms are also likely in Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the remaining areas of Ilocos and Central Luzon.
Weather authorities cautioned that prolonged moderate to heavy rainfall may lead to flooding and landslides in affected areas.
Elsewhere in the country, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected, mainly due to localized convective activity.
Moderate to strong winds will affect Northern and Central Luzon, as well as the western portions of Southern Luzon, where coastal waters may become moderate to rough. Other parts of the country will experience generally calmer weather conditions with slight to moderate seas.
PAGASA is also keeping watch over a low-pressure area located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The system was estimated at 590 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union at 3 a.m. and carries a medium chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone within the next day.ia/xf
