MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is reverting to a standard five-day workweek beginning June 1, 2026, ending its temporary compressed work arrangement.
Labor Secretary Francis N. Tolentino signed the directive restoring the regular schedule for all DOLE offices, including bureaus, regional offices, services, and attached agencies.
The agency had earlier adopted a compressed workweek scheme in line with the Office of the President’s Memorandum Circular No. 114, which required government offices to implement energy-saving measures amid global economic pressures. The policy also permitted flexible arrangements such as a four-day workweek to help reduce energy use in the public sector.
However, DOLE said the return to the traditional schedule is necessary to fully carry out its mandate on labor standards and social protection, and to comply with provisions under MC 114.
In its memorandum, the agency emphasized that the interim compressed work arrangement is being lifted, and the standard five-day work schedule is officially reinstated across the department.
