MANILA — The official Facebook page of the Batangas Police Provincial Office (BPPO) was reportedly compromised by hackers, who replaced official police announcements with unrelated videos featuring wildlife and African tribal scenes.
The breach, which occurred in early June 2026, effectively disrupted the police unit’s main digital communication channel. Visitors to the page reportedly saw a new profile image showing members of an African tribe, while the timeline was filled with videos of crocodile hunting and other wildlife-related content.
Following the incident, authorities moved quickly to regain control of their online communications. On June 8, 2026, the BPPO launched a new official Facebook page titled “PNP Batangas Police Provincial Office,” which now serves as the verified platform for public advisories, safety reminders, and emergency updates.
The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group is currently investigating the incident to identify those responsible for the breach and determine how the account was compromised.
Officials have urged the public to stop following the hacked page to avoid exposure to misleading content or possible phishing attempts, and instead rely only on the newly established official account for verified information.
