MANILA – Large parts of the Philippines will continue to experience rain as a low-pressure area and the easterlies influence the country’s weather system, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Saturday.
As of 3 a.m., PAGASA said the low-pressure area was monitored 795 kilometers east of General Santos City.
Its trough is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Central Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and several areas in Eastern Visayas such as Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.
Authorities warned that moderate to heavy rains in these regions may lead to flash floods or landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.
At the same time, the easterlies will affect the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, resulting in partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA cautioned that strong thunderstorms may still cause flash floods or landslides in vulnerable communities.
Across the country, light to moderate winds and generally slight to moderate seas are expected.
