MANILA — The Senate leadership remains unchanged as Senator Alan Peter Cayetano continues as Senate President following an unsuccessful attempt to alter the chamber’s top post, according to reports.
Speculation had earlier emerged about a possible realignment of Senate leadership, but no changes ultimately materialized.
In the same plenary session, Senators Migz Zubiri and JV Ejercito officially moved to the minority bloc, reshaping the chamber’s political grouping.
Zubiri and Ejercito both signified their decision during session proceedings, confirming their alignment with the minority.
With the shift, the majority bloc maintains 13 members while the minority increases to 11.
Zubiri explained that his abstention in the Senate presidency vote was intended to preserve independence on issues he considers important to the public, adding that he chose to align with the opposition during the reorganization.
Ejercito, who initially considered staying independent, eventually opted to formally join the minority bloc.
