MANILA — Social media users expressed mixed reactions following the release of the latest OCTA Research survey showing a hypothetical tandem of former vice president and current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and Senator Raffy Tulfo leading potential rivals in the early race for the 2028 national elections.
According to the OCTA Research “Tugon ng Masa” survey conducted from March 19 to 25, 2026, the Robredo-Tulfo pairing garnered 44 percent voter preference, edging out the tandem of Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Imee Marcos, which received 40 percent support.
The survey quickly sparked online discussions, with supporters and critics weighing in on the possibility of a future alliance between Robredo and Tulfo.
In an Instagram post, media outlet The Philippine Star noted the “strong support” for the Robredo-Tulfo tandem and raised questions on whether the survey numbers could eventually lead to an official political alliance ahead of the 2028 elections.
Several commenters pointed to the growing importance of public perception and sustained visibility in shaping future electoral support.
“The survey highlights how important public perception and consistent engagement have become in shaping future political support,” one user wrote.
Another commenter described the emerging political conversations around 2028 as “exciting,” saying that both Robredo and Tulfo remain influential figures capable of drawing significant public attention.
“At the end of the day, nasa tao pa rin ang desisyon. Surveys may show public interest, pero ang tunay na basehan pa rin ng suporta ay ang track record, consistency sa serbisyo, at kakayahang magbigay ng konkretong solusyon sa mga problema ng bansa,” the commenter said.
However, not all reactions were favorable.
Some users criticized the possible tandem, while others openly declared preference for alternative pairings involving Duterte or other political figures. One commenter dismissed the idea of a Robredo-Tulfo alliance, while another said they preferred a Robredo-Duterte combination instead.
Political observers said the varying reactions underscore the highly polarized nature of Philippine politics even this early ahead of the 2028 polls, with social media continuing to serve as a major platform for public sentiment and political debate.
Despite the survey results, no formal announcement has been made by either Robredo or Tulfo regarding plans for a joint national ticket in 2028.
