MANILA — De La Salle University capped its dominant campaign with a straight-set victory over National University, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16, to capture the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball championship on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Spikers completed the season undefeated with a 16-0 record, becoming only the third team in league history to achieve a flawless run in the women’s division.
Leading the way for La Salle were Shevana Laput and Angel Canino. Laput exploded for 20 points, including the championship-clinching hit, while Canino contributed 11 points along with 10 excellent receptions and 10 digs.
La Salle dominated the best-of-three finals series without dropping a set, redeeming itself after losing to NU in last season’s championship showdown.
The victory also denied the Lady Bulldogs a chance to secure a third straight title. NU had won three of the previous four UAAP championships before La Salle reclaimed the crown.
The championship marked the 13th women’s volleyball title for the Lady Spikers under longtime coach Ramil de Jesus.
