MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte holds a clear advantage over Leni Robredo in a hypothetical head-to-head contest for the 2028 presidential race, according to the latest survey by OCTA Research.
Survey results showed Duterte securing 46 percent support, compared to Robredo’s 35 percent, while 19 percent of respondents remain undecided—an indication that the race, though leaning toward Duterte, is far from settled.
OCTA noted that while Duterte continues to lead, the gap has narrowed compared to earlier surveys, suggesting a more competitive and polarized political landscape heading into the next election cycle.
In a separate preference survey involving 26 possible presidential contenders, Duterte garnered 33 percent backing, with Robredo trailing at 21 percent. The data also revealed potential vote shifts, with some respondents indicating they would transfer support depending on who ultimately runs.
“The sizable undecided segment underscores that the electorate remains fluid,” OCTA said, pointing out that nearly one in five voters has yet to commit, leaving room for significant movement influenced by alliances, campaign dynamics, and national issues.
Despite the survey results, Robredo has publicly stated she has no plans to seek a national post in 2028, although some allies continue to urge her to reconsider. Duterte, on the other hand, has already signaled her intention to pursue higher office.
The survey, conducted among 1,200 respondents, carries a margin of error of ±3 percent.
Meanwhile, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is keeping his focus away from early electoral discussions. Malacañang said the President is prioritizing governance, particularly the country’s response to tensions in the Middle East and ensuring stable energy supply.
Officials added that while conversations about future leadership may be inevitable, the administration’s current stance is anchored on addressing pressing national concerns over political positioning.
