MANILA, Philippines — Residents in three Philippine areas are expected to face extreme heat conditions on Thursday, with heat index levels possibly reaching 41°C, the weather bureau said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Cotabato City, Tuguegarao City, and Aparri are projected to record the highest heat index values.
These locations are classified under the “extreme caution” level, where heat indices range from 33°C to 41°C. Pagasa cautioned that extended exposure to such temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila will also experience high heat, with Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City expected at 38°C and the Science Garden in Quezon City at 37°C.
Authorities reminded the public to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and wear appropriate clothing to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Pagasa further reported that multiple areas across the country will also be under “extreme caution,” with temperatures reaching up to 40°C in several provinces and cities, including Dagupan, Laoag, Iloilo, and Puerto Princesa.
The bureau has also issued an El Niño Alert, warning of a high likelihood of the phenomenon developing in mid-2026, which may result in drier-than-normal conditions and possible drought in some areas.
