MANILA – Assistance is being extended by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to the relatives of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who lost their lives after being held hostage by their employer in Beirut, Lebanon.
The DMW said both victims had been working for the same household for years and were killed by gunfire during the incident on April 15. The suspect has since been arrested and remains in police custody while charges are being prepared.
To ensure immediate aid, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac has tasked Undersecretaries Bernard Olalia and Felicitas Bay to visit the grieving families and coordinate support services.
The agency also noted that its Migrant Workers Office, alongside the Philippine Embassy in Lebanon, is in constant communication with Lebanese authorities to monitor developments and ensure accountability.
Authorities emphasized that efforts are ongoing to secure justice for the victims, while assistance programs—including repatriation and benefits—are being arranged for their families.
