MANILA, Philippines — Sangley Point in Cavite is expected to reach a heat index of up to 42°C on Monday, April 20, placing it under the “danger” level, the state weather bureau Pagasa said.
The heat index measures how hot it feels to the human body based on temperature and humidity combined.
Pagasa warned that heat index levels from 42°C to 51°C are considered dangerous, with risks of heat cramps, exhaustion, and heat stroke after prolonged exposure.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila will experience “extreme caution” conditions, with heat indices ranging from 33°C to 41°C.
Current readings include 39°C at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City and 37°C at the Science Garden in Quezon City.
Other areas expected to reach similar levels include San Ildefonso, Bulacan (41°C), Tuguegarao City (40°C), as well as several locations across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao recording 33°C to 40°C.
Pagasa reminded the public to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, limit strenuous activity outdoors, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses during peak daytime hours.
