MANILA — The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced the school calendar for School Year 2026–2027, with classes scheduled to open on June 8, 2026, and conclude on April 8, 2027.
As part of its education reforms, DepEd will implement a three-term system in basic education, aimed at improving lesson flow and helping address students’ learning gaps.
The academic year will cover 201 school days and will be organized into three terms. Each term will consist of an opening period, regular classroom instruction, and end-of-term assessments and activities.
For the first term, school-related preparations will take place from June 8 to 11, with formal classes starting June 15 and running until early September. Assessment activities will follow in mid-September.
The second term is set from mid-September to early December, ending with evaluations before the Christmas break.
The third term will begin in January and last until late March, with final assessments and school closing activities scheduled in early April 2027.
According to DepEd, the new structure aims to create a more balanced academic schedule while allowing time for student assessment and learning recovery.
The agency noted that the three-term system is part of a wider set of reforms, including improvements in assessment processes, simplified lesson planning, and strengthened recovery programs like the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) initiative.
Education officials said the approach is expected to support consistent learning, reduce interruptions, and enable teachers to better handle instructional time.
The updated calendar will be enforced in all public schools nationwide starting School Year 2026–2027. Private schools, meanwhile, may adopt the system provided they comply with the minimum number of required school days set by DepEd.
