MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reassigned three senior officials as part of an internal reorganization triggered by the recent hazing controversy at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA).
In an order dated April 15, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. appointed Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan as acting director of the PNPA. Maranan previously served as regional director of Police Regional Office–Central Visayas (PRO-7).
Taking his place in PRO-7 is Brig. Gen. Arnold Evangelista Abad, while Brig. Gen. Arnold Casingal Santiago has been designated acting director of the Manila Police District, replacing Abad.
Maranan succeeds Brig. Gen. Andrei Dizon, who was reassigned to the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU) following the April 3 hazing incident. The case involved three second-year cadets who allegedly applied a mixture of muriatic acid and liquid sosa on more than 20 fellow cadets.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said the reshuffle was directly prompted by the incident, with leadership transitions scheduled both in PRO-7 and at the PNPA.
In addition to Dizon, eight other PNPA personnel were relieved from their posts and transferred to the PHAU, including one brigadier general, two colonels, two majors, and three sergeants. Officers assigned to the PHAU are typically placed on administrative holding status without specific duties.
Meanwhile, the PNP is broadening its crackdown on hazing, extending stricter policies across all police training institutions nationwide.
Nartatez emphasized that reforms will be institutionalized, with a zero-tolerance policy covering all stages of police training—from recruitment to specialized courses.
He added that the organization will intensify monitoring mechanisms, including random inspections and tighter accountability measures for training officials.
